Le Pouliguen, a family seaside resort

A small town in the Loire-Atlantique region, Le Pouliguen is a famous seaside resort on the Côte d'Amour.

Located just south of the Guérande salt marshes, Le Pouliguen also borders Batz-sur-Mer and La Baule-Escoublac. The 3 communes have a common nickname, the " funny ladies ". 

The usual population of the city is around 4,500 in winter. 

Breton was spoken in Le Pouliguen until the 19th century. This makes it the city in Loire-Atlantique where Breton died out the latest.


Its promenade of the port, entirely pedestrianised, is a must-see : shops, rides, but also ice cream, waffles and niniches. You can wander there with family, friends, and also to contemplate the Comings and goings of boats.

Since the Middle Ages, the port of Le Pouliguen owes its development to the transport of salt produced in the salt marshes of Guérande.

Today, the current port has lost none of its charm. It is a privileged place for walks, and it is now largely occupied by boaters.

AN ENDEARING CITY CENTRE

Take the Quai Jules Sandeau and  the adjacent streets, such as the Rue des Halles or the rue de l'église, and enjoy the old Pouliguen, its streets  and its market.

Le Pouliguen is also made up of small, narrow streets lined with old low houses. Let yourself go for a walk, and just behind your accommodation, discover the Place des Halles or the church district. Stroll along Rue du Centre or the Grande Rue to do some shopping or  take a coffee break on the terrace.

The Market (all (days except Mondays) is a place of conviviality and local pleasures; Shopping here means favouring authenticity and production   Taste oysters and Muscadet. Radiating around the open market halls, the Grand Marché  invades the surrounding streets on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays and gives the Downtown, a joyful animation.

A few steps away, you will also find https://www.bikevasion.com/, a pleasant park of more than 4 hectares, with a playground for children, tennis courts, basketball, pétanque and boules , and in the  where we share festive moments!


The beaches of Le Pouliguen and La Baule

The harbour promenade takes you straight from the apartment to the expansive Nau beach, from where you can watch the sweeping of boats entering and leaving the harbour. Guests can swim, play, sunbathe and enjoy the beach terraces.

Beyond, you walk along the Côte Sauvage and its beaches of coves, from the tip of Pontchâteau to Batz sur Mer and Le Croisic.

Crossing the bridge, you can walk to nearby La Baule and its huge bay. 

The salt marshes of Guérande and Batz

The salt marshes form a grandiose landscape, shaped by the hand of man for centuries. 
They offer a mosaic of colours: light grey in the morning, bright white at the zenith, purple at sunset. 

The 2,000 hectares of marshland are fed by the Croisic and Mesquer rivers   
Bike tours on winding roads, guided tours for pedestrians, overview by car.

Protected for their ecological heritage , they can be discovered thanks to 3 reception structures: Terre de Sel and the Maison des Paludiers in Guérande as well as the Museum of the Salt Marshes in Batz-sur-Mer.  
Similarly, independent salt workers or associations offer you many services.

In Batz sur Mer, theMusée des Marais Salants continues and develops the activities of conservation and enhancement of the heritage of the Museum of Ancient Costumes created in 1887, one of the oldest museums of Popular Arts and Traditions in Brittany and even France.
